LATEST INGRES. (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 11. Rt. Hon. Mr Forbes stated that Cabinet was losing no time in investigating the possibility of providing work for those men who are to be put out of employment as the result of the cessation of activities on the South Island Main Trunk and the Midland line, and the East Coast line. Cabinet Ministers met for over an hour this morning, and discussed a scheme which had been prepared by the Minister in charge of unemployment, Rt. Hon. Mr Coates, but no definite decision was reached. The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Mr Forbes, said this afternoon that it was hoped to be able to absorb practically all of the. men who will be thrown out of employment, although it might not be possible to do that in the districts where they are a present stationed. A COUNTY COUNCIL’S PROTEST. 'ASHBURTON, October 12. Declaring it was time that the question of providing work for the unemployed under certain circumstances, was finalised, the County Council decided to refuse to find work for married men in the fourth week, when they, cannot be employed under No. 5 .Scheme. A complaint was made of the

burden thrust upon local bodies by the Government- in the matter of providing work outside of the Unemployment Board’s scheme.
