FOUND DEAD, (By Telegraph—VerVress Association) ASHBURTON,. October 7. Phillip Goss, aged twenty-nine, a son of .Mr E. Goss, a farmer of Tinwald, was found dead at the edge of the Ashburton riverbed about naif a m.ic from his home about two o’clock this afternoon, with a wound in his throat and a razor by his side. He had been in ill health for some time and had been receiving treatment for nervous trouble. When he did not return for' dinner, anxiety was felt for his whereabouts anu a search was made. The body was found by Mr Henry .Rogers, of 'Wills Street, Ashburton, who was at the home of the deceased when he was discovered to be missing. PUBLIC INTEREST FIRST. M., to-day, when he fined Leonard Thomas Wood, auctioneer, £2O, with costs, and cancelled his driver's license for three years on a charge of being intoxicated whilst in charge of a motor car, Mr ,Ingl*is, for defendant, pleaded that cancellation for such a long period might result in Wood los:ng his employment and inflicting hardship on his wife and seven children. The Magistrate replied that many men not given to drink had the same responsibilities as defendant and had only relief work to depend upon.
