FOREMAN’S REPORT,
j beg to report the following work v. as carried out during the month, jv The footpaths have received most of <ipr attention during this month, re- "" “■“■■jrairir.g and gravelling. The footpath in V/ehl Street between Tailored and Sewell Streets on the north side from McKays, to the Railway Hotel, was repa’rcd with asphalt and the kerbing repaired, also in Revell Street near Fowler’s Hotel, and in Hamilton Street between Sewell and Tanered Streets. The footpaths gravelled were rts follows: Sewell Street on the west side between Weld and Stafford Streets ;jf and on thf east side between Wold and | Hampden Streets; Hampden Street ;i) footpath between Sewell and Fitsher- • H bert Streets and between Bealey and , - Fitzherbert Streets on the south side, and on the north side between Bealey [j | - and Hall Streets. Weld Street footpath between Fitzherbert and Bealey
Streets on the south side, and Eoaley Street between Weld Street and Gibsons Quay were gravelled will screened gravel, the total number of loads used was three hundred and fifty. Kerbing was raised in Tancred Street along side Perry’s store. Rolleston Street drain between Stafford and Weld Streets was connected with 18in concrete pipes the distance being four and a-half chains, and a concrete covering put on the sumph at the corners of Park and Sale Streets.
A connection was put in at Appleton’s at the top end of Hampden Street, and two connections repaired. Several leaks about town were repaired.
The depth of water in the revervoir for the month was 10ft Sin.—Received.
Tire Foreman reported the cost of repairing the wells at the corner of Revell and "Weld and Revell and Stafford Street would be £l2 7s 6(1. Referred to Chairman of Works to interview Fire Brigade.
UNEMPLOYED SCHEME, No. 5
The relief men were occupied during the month in cleaning the footpath and side drains, cutting growth, and levelling the sides; of Park and Weld Streets, screening gravel, and on reserves. Also bringing a fall down in the pit, some five or six hundred loads being brought down.—Received. RESERVES COMMITTEE. Fi-ont Reserves Colnlnittee as follows With reference to the letter from the Hokitika Lawn Tennis Club dated the lltK. instant, asking for particulars for a lease of one acre of Whitcombe Square, or alternatively one acre of the Botanical Gardens, which was referred to the Reserves Committee for consideration, I beg to report) as follows:
Whitcombe Square.—The land that the Club require is:—Section 33, 34, 35,36, on plan of subdivision which has not yet been deposited. Until the plan of subdivision is deposited, and Whitcombe Square is revalued, it is not possible to give .the exact valuations of the sections, but the approximate value of the four sectionsetotaling one acre is £l2O. The rental on this valuation at 5 per cent, is fix pounds per annum, and the rates would be £8 18s per annum, making a total of £l4 IBs per annum. Botanical Gardens:—The acre which would v be selected by the Club would he in Weld Street and approximately in a line with Jollie Street. The approximate value of the acre would he £122, and on a basis of 5 per cent the rent would he £6 2s per annum, and the rates £9 Os 8d per annum, making a total of £ls 2s 8d per annum. Either of these reserves can be leased by the Council, but in the case of Whitcombe Square, the continuation of Realey Street would be required to be dedicated and the plan of subdivision deposited}-.before any action could bo .taken in regard to the land.
