MR THEODORE

ATTACKS ON BANKS. ALSO ON LANG FACTION. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, October 10. , Mr E. C. Theodore, Federal Treasurer, made his first public appearance since the Mungana prosecution, in liis electorate at Balmain to-night. Ho bitterly attacked the hanks and also the Lang group of State Labourites, j He said the organised banks were die-] taring the Government’s economic, fin-, ancial and even industrial policy. The Commonwealth Government therefore was not satisfied with the present state of affairs and intended to insist on a radical change in the mode eon- ! trolling the monetary system, as Well as the credit resources of this coun- 1 try. The Prime Minister is shortly formulating, on behalf of the Labour movement, Labour’s aspirations in this direction, and a clear out issue would be presented to the people at tile ‘ forthcoming general election. After further elaborating the Government’s difficulties, all whereof he attributed to the banks, Mr Theodore declared the Lang faction which, was making end- , less trouble for the Labour movement, . was a crowd of liverlunged, lowbrows, ■ typifying a form of reckless, destruo- • tive, unintelligent autocracy, who were j

creating a tradition of irresponsibility chiefly in New South Wales, which if allowed to go uncurbed would eventually extend throughout the Commonwealth, Lang’s own Parliamentary' Cal. lowers had been reduced to the status of slaves and factotums, at the beck and call of a group of Trades Hall Mwaabbucklers.
