HOKITIKA BOXING CLUB

A meeting of the Club was held on Monday evening with the following present:—-Messrs E. McGregor (chair), I<\ Ballinger; D. Breeze, J. Stafford, J. Atkinson, 0. Hahn, M. McGaviu, j. Johnson, R. Bell, E. Furness. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, t Several successful competitors of laste month’s tourney were present and were presented with their medals. ‘ Mr J. Stafford moved and Mr J. Atkinson seconded that an open tourney he held on Saturday, October 31st (before the swimming season opened). Carried. The secretary was authorised to arrange special bouts for Chas. Ffahlert and another, and George Freitas and another, the trophy in each case to he valued at £2/2/- for the winner and £l/1/- for the loser, with 15/- expenses each.

The Secretary was instructed to write Hy. Lister, the Greymouth mid-dle-weight professional re his offer of an exhibition bout. It was decided to meet the Baths Committee and endeavour to arrange for space inside the hath enclosure, to stack the Club’s timber. The Secretary was appointed to represent the Club, A very pleasing ceremony concluded the business when the President, Mr F. McGregor, presented the Chib’s Coach with a suitably engraved gold watch. He congratulated Mr Furness on his successes at the recent tourney and fittingly eulogised his untiring aer„ vices to the training of competitors, without whom the Club would have been unable to function. Other members supplemented the President’s remarks. Mr R. Furness, who was taken very much hy surprise suitably returned thanks.
