N.S.W. PAYS UP

ALL BACK INTEREST,

(Australian Press Association.)

CANBERRA, October 7,

Hen. CL C- Theodore, Federal Treasurer, announced to-day in the House of Representatives that the New South Wales Government is meeting Its interest payments fully as they fall due, and therefore the action instituted by the Commonwealth Government for the recovery of the State’s former indebtedness has been discontinued. The total amount due by New South Wales, he said, is £4,559,434. The New South Wales Government had now discounted Treasury Bills to provide for this amount, and had paid the proceeds to the Commonwealth.

Mr Latham, Deputy-Leader of the Opposition interjected. “So Mr Lang has climbed down!”

Mr Maxwell (another 4 Oppositionist) remarked : “Yes, since the revolution.”
