The Coalition Cabinet has not yet considered the many representations received concerning the entry of the ships of the Matson Line into the Pad. fic trade, involving the calling of the vessels at Auckland, according to u statement made in the- House by the Rt. Hon. 0. W. Forbes, who was asKed by Mr P. Fraser (Lab., Wellington Central) whether the Government had come to any decision in respect of the threat to New Zealand shipping and the livelihood of New Zealand seamen involved in the proposed entry of the heavily subsidised and protected United States Matson Company into the inter-Colonial trade, and whether the Prime Minister would state wlmt steps it was proposed to tak r to assist New Zealand shipping and seanrn against unfair competition, Mr Forbes said that owing to the pressure of special business and events which had taken place, Cabinet bad not yet considered the matter, but be expected t<> he able Jo make a statement within the next few days.
