A CONFERENCE
WEST COAST CLUBS. ECONOMY MEASURES DISCUSSED. Consideration of ways and means of economising 111 the direction or curtailing' privilege tickets, and un.formity regarding the conducting i t the various meetings 011 the West Coast, was given by representatives of racing and trotting clubs at a conference held in Gn ymontii on Friday afternoon. Mr T. K. Coates (President of the Grey District Committee), presided and the following delegates were al o present:—Messrs E. W. Spencer, J. li. Audi. J. B. Diseaciati (Keefton .Jo,key Chib) ill. T. W. thai'erass (Greymouth T.C.) ; K. Williams and M. J. Fogarty (Greymoutli J.C.) ; and \\ . B. Gilbert (Kumarn H.C.). Tile Chairman said the conference was designed to improve the financial posit ion < f tin 1 clubs, and privileges hitherto extended to patrons required curtail lueiit.
It was' resolved that as regarded payment, of the Sports Proto -Mon Leagues’ levy, the mutter be ioft to each Club to decide for itself. It was resolved that the official passes in all Clubs in the district, except tile Greymouth 'trotting Ciub be issued by the Greymouth Metropolitan Club as formerly.
The Greymouth Trotting Club while not a party to the issue of passes by the Metropolitan Club agreed itseo to issue separate comp.imeuta: y -i'--kots for the stewaids of the neighbouring clubs and being desirous to keep its own check on the gates. in tin- question of luncheon and afternoon lea tickets if. was agreed that cieh club sbou’d decide this mater for it se f.
It was resolved that all ot the \A est Coast Clubs issue five 'shilling H-keC on the totalisator at the Christmas meetings.
The issuing of complimentary tickets other than members’ passes, was left to the individual clubs, with a recommendation that file issues be cur tailed. There was some discussion as to the method of starting at tho galloping meeting, and it was resolved that the starters be informed that the club-; desire standing starts rather than walk-up starts. It, was decided that a telegram be forwarded to the Prime Minister asking for relief in the matter of rais m taxation and that Messrs Kitcliingliam and Coates should draft the te’egraln. H was resolved that the Government be asked to consider the introduction of U State Lottery, nfid that such lottery he associated with tho racing events similar to those now in operations in tlm Irish Free Sit ate ami in Tasmania and that the Member for the district, Mr Jas. O’Brien, be asked to support the scheme.
