THE SOUTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK RAILWAY
TOUR BY MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT.
BLENHEIM, September 29.
The Parliamentary party which will inspect the South Island main trunk line as guests of the Marlborough i .ogress League will assemble .at Christchurch to-morrow morning under the guidance of Mr E. !■. Hvaly, M.P., who
i-it for tlie south ihis morning. The party will proceed by train from Christ- ■ iiu. b to arnassus, w here they Will be picked up by Blenheim cars which proceeded south for the purpose tins alternoon.
It is intended first of all to show the visitors over some of the country in the vicinity of Waiau, on the inland road, and later they will traverse the railway construction work as far- as Cl'aVtYley, where luncheon will be served. After luncheon they will be taken over the country at the back of Ivaikoura and probably up the Puhipuhi Valley, and ih'-y will return to Kaikoura for the
night. Making an early start on Thursday morning, the party will cover the whole of the construction work at the north--1 ru end of the line, and will also penetrate various side valleys. The settlers at Ward have invited the party to morning tea there. VISIT TO CLIFFORD BAY. A short visit will be paid to Clifford Bray and the cars will also run over much of the Awatere country, such as Seaview, Blind River, Richmond, Brook Crossing and Redwood Pass. A short tour of the VVairau Plain is to 1 10 made. The, visitors are expected to reach Blenheim about 1 p.m., and after being briefly welcomed at the rotunda by .the Mayor will be entertained at luncheon, after which they will proceed to Picton to connect with the Tainahine for Wellington. Messrs W. E. Barnard (Napier) and H. G. Mason (Auckland Suburbs), who ■originally'* accepted the invitation to make the tour have had to withdraw for private reasons, but new aceep-l-inces are those of Messrs J. W. Monro i(T)unedin INlorth) and G. C. Munns KRoskill). The party will definitely consist of the following members : Messrs H. T. Armstrong, A. Harris, W. J. Jordan, H. S. S. Kyle, F. Langstone, iW. Lee Martin, F. Waite, R. A. (Wright, G. C. Morins, J. W. Munro and E. F. iHealy. It is also probable that Messrs U. G. Sullivan, V. A. Ward and E. J. Howard will join the party. No fewer than fourteen members in telegraphing expressing regret at their inability to make the trip at such short' notice have added an assurance of support of the project in the House.
A BIG DEPUTATION
In connection with the Marlborough deputation to Wellington on October 7, the Progress League is endeavouring to arrange for a special one-day return trip by the Tamahine at excursion fares, and-it is hoped that if this can be settled some hundreds of Marlborough residents will join.
