WELLINGTON, September 30,

A further substantial decrease is recorded in the customs revenue collected at Wellington for September. The figures were £175,053 as compared with £283,186 for September of last year, a drop of £103,123, Dor nine months this year the revenue was £1,677,229 against £2,316,080 for the corresponding period last year, a decrease of £638,850. The duty collected on motor spirit last month was £40,561, against £36,170 last year, and for the nine months £376,860 and £324,568 respectively. The tire tax last month was £1,524 against £2,331, a fall of £BO7, and for the nine months £20,111 against £2B- - The beer excise for September was £5,398, against £5,263 for the nine months £38,055 against £50,437.

A meeting of the bus drivers’ branch of the A.S.R.S., at Wellington carried a resolution that this branch of trie A.S.R.S. views with alarm the activities of private taxi-service brought about by the recent increase in bus fares. In view of serious loss of patronage. we implore the Railway Board to immediately reduce fares with a view to securing the public patronage which has been directed to opposition services.
