HOKITIKA VOLUNTEERS.
The first parade of Hokitika Volunteers was held in tlie Drill Hall last Tuesday evening under the 'command of Captain C. H. Bleach. This was the first muster under th e new Defence system and resulted in a full attendance of members. The quota for Hokitika is 1 officer and 20 other ranks. The members are organised as a Platoon of four sections, Segt. Connolly, Platoon Sergt-, and Segt. C. Wright, Segt. D. Diedrichs, Cpl. Cooper and Cpl. R. Little, section commanders. The uniforms are all new dark green in shade, and of the mounted pattern. The training as laid down by Headquarters, Nelson, is to take the form of tactical exercises, Lewis gun and musketry training. The parades will be held fortnightly and judging by the attendance at the first parade, interest should be well sustained. There will be a camp of the West Coast Regiment annually. In other centres the scheme has taken on well and it is hoped that the same support will be manifest locally.
