COLLIE DOG INJURED
NEIGHBOUR CHARGED WITH
SHOOTING.
WHANGARiEI, September 23
A sequel to the loss of a valuable collie dog from the farm of Mr O. I>. Dawson, at Maungatapere, and its subsequent discovery with a pea rifle bullet lodged near its spinal column, was heard in the Magistrate’s Court, when Aubrey Henwood, a son of the next door neighbour, was charged under the Police Offences Act with having .wilfully'damaged a dog to the value "of /£25, by shooting it and thereby causing it unnecessary pain.
After hearing considerable evidence, Mr G. Morris, S.M., said it was quite clear that the dog had been shot on Henwood’s place, hut there was no evidence to show who shot it. The pea rifle in question had been left in the cow shed. The charges under the Police Offences Act would be dismissed. On a charge of being found in possession of a pea rifle, Henwood was fined £1 and costs 10s, ,• Henwood to pay the costs, 10s, on the second charge, of being in possession of an unregistered firearm. , ,
W. Watson, the owner of the pea rifle- was fined £1 and costs 12s for delivering the firearm out of his possession.
