United had also played one .game more than Cobden. Air Hannam moved that the competition he finalised and Rivals declared the winners. The motion was seconded by Mr Guy. • Mr Eggleton: I strongly object tothat, Air Chairman! If you do that you are going to -kill football.
The Chairman: It should not kill football Air Eggleton. After all, the game’s the thing. The Cup should make no difference. Something has to he done with the competition because we cannot carry on for another three weeks.
Mr Eggleton : But the Cobden team is a better one than Rivals and as a representative of the Oobden Club, I want the competition! played out. The Chairman : You cannot say that Cobden a.re the better team. As members of this Union, we do not know which is the better team. You are introducing Club spirit Mr Eggleton.
Mr Eggleton: No! Not at all. But I do like a fair span,.
Mr O’Pennell: You have one cup, Mr Eggleton, surely that ought to be enough. ‘The Chairman (To Mr Eggleton) : Do you think that by prolonging the competition you would be in the best interests of the Union?
Mr Eeglctcn: Certainly I do. It is not a fair thing to the boys to rob them of the cup in this way.
The Chairman: Well, if Cobden lose tlm cup on this motion and that affects them next season, personally, I would say that they would be better playing another code. The cup should not affect them at all.
Mr Eggleton : Cobden will never go over to any other code. Anyhow I have expressed my views of the motion. If the cup is awarded to Rivals Oobden are mot ’being given a fair spin.
The Chairman: If you were not a Cobden delegate, M.v Eggleton. I do not think you would have said anything about it.
