' As the result of the action of the , Colonial Sugar Company increasing th© price of sugar by £5 a ton, the retail price in Christchurch will probably advance from 2d to 3d per lb. A leadgrocer stated that £5 in advance would cover the new duty and primage. BOY DROWNED. STRATFORD; September 21. Eric Norman Bailey (17) employed by Robert . .Thomson, a farmer of Te Awa, was drowned in a dam yesterday. Although warned not to go near without company, the hot weather attracted him fto the water. After dragging for 2 hours the body Avas recovered.
