ALLEGED ARSON
GARRISON HALL FIRE

! , GISBORNE, September 17. An inquest in the circumstances of a fire which destroyed the Garrison Hall on January 20th last, was opened before the district Coroner, P. H. Harper, today. In the blaze, arms, ammunition and equipment belonging to the Defence Department, and also the fittings of a miniature golf course were destroyed.
In opening the proceedings at the inquest Detective McLeod stated evidence would be given to show that offers ol money had been made for the purpose of having tile hall burned down, and that two men did carry out its destruction.
The inquiry is likely to last two days a large number of witnesses being sub poenaed.
