WESTLAND LAND BOARD

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH.

The Board met at 2 p.m. Present:— The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr T. Cagney (Chairman) Messrs B. •Ward, Wm. Clayton, J. Ryall, and W. Searle.

MOTION OF SYMPATHY. The Commissioner referred to the death.of Mr J. Park, Crown Solicitor, who had been a regular attendant at the Board’s meeting for many years. He referred ,to the valuable services rendered, and expressed his deep regret, at his death. He moved that the Board place on record its deep sense of the loss sustained, and convey its sympathy to Mrs Park and members of the family. Carried in silence, members standing.

WELCOME TO MR SEARLE. The Chairman extended a welcome to Mr W. Searle to the Board table. He was a progressive farmer, and. the experiences he had gained would prove valauble at tjie present time. He extended a welcome to Mr Searle and trusted their relations would be pleasant ones. Mr Ward endorsed the Chairman’s Welcome Mr Searle was a settler of long standing. a.nd his experience would prove of value to the Board and to.those who come before members. He trusted 'Mr Searle would have a pleasant term of office. '. Mr Clayton joined in the welcome extended. , Mr Searle had an extensive knowledge of the South district., He felt sure he woold be able to carry on the good work done by his predecessors Messrs Chinn and Gibb. Mr Bvall also extended best wishes to Mr Searle for a pleasant term of office a s a member of the Board.

Mr Searle thanked me'mbers for the welcome, extended. His heart and soul was in South Westland and the (idvancenient of the district and he Would do his utmost to assist in any possible way to that end.
