CHARGED WITH THEFT

MAN DRESSED AS WOMAN

PALMERSTON N., September 12.

The story of a young man’s masquerade as a female was related in the Feildmg Magistrate’s Court this morning when a young man, described as a window , dresser, of- •’Wellington, was remanded on a charge of theft. ft appeared, said Sergeant Cahill, that a young man had come from Wellington to Fei filing to -stay with some friends. On Wednesday his host and hostess went to Palmerston North for the day, the guest stating that he would go on to Kimbolton, inhere he had' a position on view. On Thursday the 'host and his wife arrived back to find that a money-box had been ransacked, a wristlet watch and brooch stolen, and several other articles missing. The police had been advised of the occurrence, and from a workman whohad been carrying out repairs at the house during the owner’s absence, it was discovered that a “young woman” had left the- house shortly after the informant had commenced work. The police were side tracked for a while, until Constable Pike reported having noticed a “woman” of decidedly masculine appear a ire in the town. The Kimbolton bus. driver said that he had carried a “woman” answering the description in the posses ion of the police, to Kimbolton. The Kimbolton constable was notified, and the “young woman” was arrested, but in male attire.
