EFFECTS OF REDUCTION. T7lj/ Telegraph —Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 15. According to advice received from the Railway Department, there will be practically no alteration in the suburban passenger fares under the reduction announced by the Railways Board. The Board has decided upon a reduction, from Sunday next, of 20 per cent, in the ordinary single-ticket fares, and also to institute holiday excursion rates (equivalent to a reduction of rather more than 20 per cent, on ordinary faros) for return tickets until further notice. There will, apparently, he no reduction in the charges for the season tickets for the suburban lines, hut the concession* tickets, for which the charge is ‘based on the ordinary fares will he affected. Intermediate travellers between any of the stations in these areas will gain the benefit of the . new scale of charges—that is, in mo-t cases, considerably lower than the present rates.
