A WESTPORT DEMAND. \

WESTPORT, September 14

A mass demonstration was held in the Theatre Royal here this evening, which was presided over by . the Mayor, Mr J. H. Harkness. The meeting protested against the report of tbe Railway Board, recommending the discontinuance of the, construction of the Westport-Inangahna. railway. Numerous speakers dealt with various aspects of the' question, and all stated that they were convinced that the resources behind the railway would ensure its being a highly profitable undertaking. A motion, urging the Government to continue the construction of the line was carreid.

It was also decided to send a deputation to Wellington, in support of the decision of the meeting;
