RADIO PROGRAMME

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15th. ... Tile speaker on the IYA International Programme this evening will be Professor H. Belshaw, Professor of Economics at the Auckland University. He will speak on “International Economic Co-operation as a factor in World Prosperity.” A feature of 2YA’s programme will be an instrumental duo—Miss Dorothy Hughes-Johnson (violin) and Mr Horatio Nelson (piano). The vocal portion of the programme will be in the hands of the popular Lyric Quartet who will be heard in solos, duets and quartettes. The Salon Orchestra will supply incidental music.

A concert to be given in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall by the Dunedin Philharmonic Society, under Signor Squarise will be broadcast by 4YA. A very fine programme has been arranged. The numbers will include: “Stradella” overture, “Liebestraum,” “Marche Slav,” “La Boheme” fantasia and the overture “Au Bois Joli.” Two compositions by Signor will also be played—the march “Les Adieux” and a trio for two violins and a piano. Silent day at 3YA.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th. This evening’s programme at IYA will be devoted to plays, songs and stories contributed by the Little Play Club, under the direction of Mrs Zoe BartleyBaxter. Humorous recitations will be given by Mr Allan McE'lwain, and Mrs Bartley-Baxter will sing songs at the piano. There will be violin solos by Mr Roy Maxwell, piano solos by Miss Phyllis .Purchase, and .baritone songs by Mr Edward Churchouse. Dr Guy .H. Scholefield will be the speaker on 2YA’s International Programme. Miss Marian Woodhouse, one of the Christchurch vocal teachers who train their pupils in microphone technique, will present a programme at 3YA. Borne very fine part-singing by her Students’ Glee Club will be heard, and solos will be sung by Miss Evelyn Lawn and Miss Jean McDonald. Contributing also to the programme will be Mr W. J. Trewern, whose fine tenor voice will be heard in “On with the Motley” and “Bedouin Love Song.” The instrumental portion of the programme will be provided by the Studio Octet, under Mr Harold Beck.

4YA will be broadcasting a studio concert to be given by Signor Stella, •Madame Reggiardo and party. This will be followed by a half-hour lecture-recital by Signor Martinelli Reggiardo, under the auspices of the Society of Musicians of Otago, on “Ttaly—Land of Song.”
