Three Light Infantry officers, Captain Baddelley, Lieuts. Boileau, ana Hughes * were killed, when a. hired plane, in which they were returning from the Schneider races crashed into an oak tree in Surrey Wood in a fog. The plane was smashed to smithereens and the bodies were terribly mutilated. A FORCED LANDING. PLANE IN A FOG. STRATFORD, September 14. An aeroplane piloted b,y S. Green, with J. Pankhurst as passenger, fl.ving from Wanganui to New Plymouth, was compelled to make a landing at Stratford yesterday. When over the town a heavy' wind and thick fog was encountered. The machine developed a spin when an endeavour was made to climb above the fog. After flying over several open spaces, Green landed in a paddock on the Demonstration Falun, having to slip in on account of the power lines. Before the plane could be brought to a standstill on touching the ground it struck soft uneven. ground and stood on its nose. The propeller, and engine were undamaged, but part of the undercarriage was forced up through the fuselage and one. wing was damaged. The occupants were unhurt.

The machine was later removed to the New Plymouth Aerodrome by mqtor lorry. LINDBERGH IN JAPAN. TOKIO, September 13. Lindbergh has concluded his visit to the capital where he was royally entertained.
