Kaye Don said to-day that he was willing to meet Gar Wood in a speed boat race on the other side of the Atlantic at any time Wood may choose. NEW YORK, September 12. A tentative feeler front the “Sunday Chronicle” as to whether Gar Wood is willing to meet Don on the other side of the Atlantic has brought an emphatic affirmative from Gar Rood himself to-day. “Gladly,” lie wired the editor of the: paper, who sent the message. Wood told the newspaper men that, by making certain improvements ;to “Miss America the Ninth,” lie hop'd to have the. fastest boat in the world before the snow flies. . He also' declared that he was building a new boat. Wood reiterated his previous denials of any trickery in the recent Harmsworth Trophy race. “What I did say and what I meant was that I would lead the challenger over the starting ! ine. but by lead I did not mean entice.” Betty Cnrstaivs, who has thrice been defeated bv Woods, lias issued a statement on the recent races declaring: “Certainly under no pretext whatever can it be claimed that the race was lost'to England through any unsportsmanlike act on Wood’s part.”
