CHAREGE AGAINST A “MOSKA : ’ DISMISSED. The Southend-on-Sda magistrates recently learned of a new proession. Thomas Henry How, aged fort3 T -five, of Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, was charged on remand with being a suspected person and also with unlawfully being in the possession of thirty-four pawntickets and certain jewd.erv. He was described by a detective as being a “nioska,” or a pro.essional pawner. The thirty-!our pawntickets were stated to be for articles to the value of £BO and all bore different mimes. How said his business was to' : buy unredeemed pledges from pawnbrokers and repledge them at a profit and then sell the tickets. He added tbajt’ one could find men iti Hatton-gafden withthousands of pounds worth of pawntickets on them. In dismissing the. charge, the Chairman of the magistrates said the. police were amply justified in taking the steps they did, but he would inform How the practice of pledging 1 articles in other names was very misleading.
