Saturday next, the occasion of the Wellington Trotting Club’s spring meeting, will see the introduction of the* 5s tote at Wellington. This should add considerably to the popularity of the meeting. BURGLARY AND ARSON. CHRISTCHURCH, September 10. Burglary and arson charges were preferred against Cyril Turnbull Gridin, 38, an engineer to-day. Both crimes were alleged to have been committed at the premises of Guthrie Bawroa and Co., Worcester Street on August 5. The police gave evidence that a failamount of damage had been done .by the fire. Accused had admitted selling brushes stolen from the firm, but claimed he got them from another mail. THEFT CHARGE. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 10. Gribbin pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft and was committed for trial. The charge of arson was thrown out owing to lack of evidence. SUPREME COURT. . WELLINGTON, Sept, 10. Prisoners sentenced in the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice, Sir M. Myers', are:—Arthur Stewart Morgan, indecent assa.nlt;'. on a male, eighteen months refot|mive. It is stated that Morgan is aged 53 and is married with a family: John Cecil Whit el aw Saunders, 21, charges of forgery, uttering and theft, three years reformative. OROMB’S ENGAGEMENT.
