THEFT FROM MOTOR
OFFENCE ADMITTED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Associationf WELLINGTON,’ September 9. Arthur John Roberts, aged 28,, a! motor driver, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Count to stealing two suitcases containing jewellery ana other goods of a total value of one thousand pounds, the property of Sladen and Sons., Christchurch. Roberts also admitted two ,ather thefts of goods valued at. £ll 9s 9d from, ears parked in the city streets. Mr Page, S.M., committed him to the Supreme Court for sentence. Henry H. Perkins, a commercial {traveller, gave evidence 'of having left a car parked in Harris Street. There were a number • of, suitcases, containing jewellery in the car. He left the car locked. He visited it several times during • the nay, 1 but; when, he: went back .pfc 5.30, he found two .suitcases : had been : stolen; , although the doop ..was still, locked. Detective Hall, who had arrested the accused at a skating rink, detailed the searching of the accused, and afterwards of his room, and the discovery, of a large’ quantify'"of goods and jewellery. L; It was stated that wheh questioned at • the detective office, the accused gaid he opened the car with a key in his possession.
