Gili ligan.. play commenced at 12.10 p.m. The New Zealand batsmen made a somewhat disappointing showing at Scarborough against Leveson Gower's XI. Mills, Page, and Talbot were dismissed before lunch. Weir’s wicket fell last, Hobbs taking a. brilliant on<j hand catch at cover. It was a sound defensive innings and of the highest value to the side. He has obtained a thousand wins for the tour. The slow wicket rendered Larwood innocuous. He did not howl at top speed. Brown, although successful, was not as steady as usual. Hobbs and Sutcliffe batted for seventy minutes before stumps. The former played delightful shots. This is his only appearance this season against the New Zealanders. Despite the cold weather, the attendance was six thousand. . -• NEW ZEALAND—First Innings.
