N.S.W. UNEMPLOYED
INCREASED BY SACKINGS. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, September 9. ! There is a heavy falling off,in the' unemployment tax collections. This is due to the severe retrenchment that is | now being exercised in all departments of commerce and industry. The fall- | ing-off has placed the Lang Govern- i nient in an awkward position. 'lhe I Government is laceff with the piobiem of an ever-increasyig army of unemployeds and a gradual drying-up of tlie taxation sources. The Cabinet are now considering a stiffening of the tax on wage earners such as remain in good work, and it is regarded as likely that the present tax of one shilling in tlie pound will be doubled on tin} incomes of £'loo n year and over.
