TO SAVE A DOG
THREE LIVES SACRIFICED. LONDON, August 28. Three human lives were sacrificed at Torquay through an effort to rescue a dog from drowning. The dog had fallen down a slipway into the sea, and its owner, a 16-year-old girl, tried to save it. She was swept out of her depth. Two men who dashed in a-ter her were carried away aiso. Hundreds of persons were looking on, and many rushed into the water to form a “human chain.”' At the same time ropes were thrown in. Within a minute, however, the three persons and the dog had disappeared beneath giant waves.
