RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied; by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER Bth. The speaker on the IYA International programme this evening will be Dr E. P. .Neale, Secretary of the 1 Auckland Chamber of Commerce. His subject will be “Some Aspects of- International Trade.” The 2YA concert will be of the popular type. The Melodie Four will delight 'listeners with an excellent selection of solos and quartettes. Oustanding among these will be two solos by Mr Sam Duncan (tenor) —“Mascushla” and ‘‘Passing By.’’- Mr W. W:‘Marshall will be heal'd in the Cradle of the Deep.” The quartette numbers will include “Timbuetod',’’ “Little Alabama Coon,” “Last Night,” and “I Love you Truly.” Featured on the programme will be Miss Merle Miller, of Christchurch, who will be heard in four songs with orchestral accompaniment : “Angel’s Serenade,” “Coming Home,” “The Garden of Your Heart,” and “My Hero.” Selected electrical recordings will be included in the programme. Handel’s famous oratorio “Judas Maccabaeus,” which 'is to be presented in the Dunedin Town Hall by the Dunedin •Choral Society will be broadcast by 4YA. The solojsts will be: Madame Winnie Fraser, Miss Molly Vickers, Mr R. A. Mitchell and Mr F. Benton, with a boy soprano, Master Lex McDonald, who will sing “Hear My Prayer.” Mr. Alfred Walmsley is conductor of the choir, with Dr V. E. Galway as organist. Silent day at 3YA. To-morrow afternoon, the Australia v. Maoris match to be played at Palmerston North will be relayed by 2Y’A and rfcbroadcast by 3YA.
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 9th. Two new artists will appear on IYA’b programme this evening—Mrs J. S. Sm'th, a very fine soprano with English training, and Mr W. H. Harvey, bass, an old. member of the Christchurch Cathedral Choir. Mr S. Sly, trombonist of the IYA Orchestra, will play, with orchestral accompaniment, Schubert’s beautiful song “Am Meer.” Recently, the IYA Musical and Dramatic Advisory Committee recommended the broadcasting of a series of illustrated musical lectures, and on this programme Mr H. Hollinrake, Mus. Bach., M.A., Director of Music at the Auckland Training Oolle<re and of the W.E.A., will give a talk on the instruments of the orchestra, taking the violin and the viola. Dr Guy H. Scholefield, 0.8. E., will be the lecturer on the 2YA International Programme this evening. 3YA has an operatic-classical programme for this evening. Concerted and solo vocal numbers will be given by the iSalon Quartet—Miss. Addie Campbell. .Miss Dulcie Mitchell, Mr H; J. Francis and Mr Clive Hindle. Miss Lucy Fullwood wifi contribute pianoforte solos and the remainder of the instrumental portion of the programme will be provided by the Studio Octet under Mr Harold Beck. 4YA announces the appearance of a new combination of artists. All the vocalists are from the studio of Mr G. W. Johnstone, one of Dunedin’s leading tutors of singing. Mr Johnstone’s solos will include Schubert and Schumann songs, and in addition he will be heard in a duet with Miss Beatrice Sproston. entitled “Twilight.”
