OLD MAN KILLED
C‘HRISTCHUIICHI, September 7. An old man was killed shortly before noon on Saturday, at the corner of Victoria Street and Cambridge Terrace when he was struck by a motorcycle ridden by Alan J. Luxton, motor mechanic, of 611, Madras Street. The body was identified as that of Mr Henry Sylvanus Gill, who resided with his daughter at 29,. Salisbury Street. He was eighty-six years of age. It is thought that Mr Gill was about to cross the street, and had stepped off the footpath when he was struck. He fell -heavily, striking his head - against the pavement. He was extendvjured about the bead, a.nd died shortly after the accident. He was attended almost at once by Dr. Leslie C. L. Averill. An inquest was opened on Saturday night, before Mr E. D. Mosley,' S.M. Evidence of identification’ was given by Harold Sylvanus Cumber worth, insurance clerk, grandson of the deceased. Tt was stated that deceased was short-sighted. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
