RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th, This evening, IYA will be broadcasting the Walker v. Buresch wrestling match. ‘ The weekly “'Musical Portrait’’ series will be continued at 2YA this evening by Mr Bernard Page, who, with Mi l>eon de -Vlauiiy, will present Lekeu’s ‘“Sonata in G Major” (for piano and violin) a work of singular beauty. iLekeu was born in 1870 and died at the early age of twenty-four. Listeners are assured of a musical treat in the performance of this work. Miss Merle Miller from Christchurch, will give a recital. Mrs ! M. J. Goodson will sing Schubert’s “Erl King” and Horner’s rather gruesome song “The Pauper’s Drive.” The Orchestrina will play “L’Agitana,” a Spanish Gypsy Song, “Polonaise” (from “Christmas Eve” by Rimsky-Korsakov) and other items.

3YA’s programme is entitled “Port Lyttelton Night.” The entertainment will be entirely of a nautical nature. During the evening, 3YA will switch over to the Lyttelton Borough Council table where the Mayor, Mr F. E. Sutton, will be presiding at a meeting, which will be interrupted while Mr Sutton addresses radio listeners on "Port Lyttelton—Past and Present.” Ono of the contributors to the musical programme will be Miss Myra .Sutton, daughter of the Mayor. Also on the programme will be Mr W. J. Richards (bass), Mr Geo. Titchener (humorist), the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio and Derry’s (Military Band. Bandsman C. Barsby will contribute a trombone solo.

'l'he speaker for the International Programme at 4YA will be the Rev. H. Davies, M.A., .speaking on “China and hei International Relations.” Mr Davits ( is a missionary who has spent many years in China and is at present on furlough. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER Bth.

The speaker on the IYA International programme this evening will be Dr L. P, Neale, .Secretary of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. His subject will be “Some Aspects of international. Trade.”

jfhe. 2YA concert will be of the popular type. The Melodie Four will delight listeners with an excellent selection of solos and quartettes. Oustanding among these will be two solos by Mr Sam Duncan (tenor) —"Mascushla” and “Passing By.” Mr W. W. Marshall will be heard in the Cradle of the Deep.” 'lhe quartette numbers will include “Timbuctoo,’ “Little Alabama Coon,” “Last Night, ’ and “I Love you Truly.” Featured on the programme will be Miss Merle Miller, of Christchurch, who will be heard in four songs with orchestral accompaniment: ’“Angel’s Serenade,” “Coming Home,” “The Garden of Your Heart,’ and “My Hero.” Selected electrical recordings will be included in the programme. Handel’s famous oratorio “Judas Maccabaeus,” which is to be presented in the Dunedin Town Hall by the Dunedin •Choral Society will be broadcast by 4YA. The soloists will be: Madame .Winnie Fraser, Miss Molly Vickers, Mr R. A. Mitchell and Mr F. Benton, with a boy soprano, Master Lex McDonald, who will sing “Hear My Prayer.” Mr Alfred Walrnsley is conductor of the choir, with Dr V. E. Galway as organist. Silent day at 3YA.

To-morrow afternoon, the Australia v. Maoris match to be played at Palmerston "North will be relayed by 2YA and rebroadcast by 3YA.
