TWO SMALL BANKS CLOSE. (Australian Press Association.) BRISBANE, September 7. “A mild run” on two comparatively small financial .. institutions, Brisbane Permanent Building ad Thinking Company Ltd., and Queensland Deposit Bank, occurred on Saturday morning. These institutions, like the Federal Deposit Bank the latter suspending payment during the week, are in the nature of building societies, not trading banks. The latest financial statements of the two firstnamed disclosed a sound state of affairs, but the managers found it necessary to issue reassuring statements informing depositors there were two other banks whereon they had a right to call for financial aid if required. When tile banks closed at noon every depositor was paid. SERIOUS QUEENSLAND FIRESYDNEY, September 5. News from Queensland states that Leiehardt Hotel, and eight shops there, were destroyed by fire early this morning. The damage was eight thousand pounds.
