RAILWAY BUS
ROBBED OF DAY’S TAKINGS. (by Telegraph—ber I‘resn Association, WELLINGTON, September 6. Choosing one of the Railway buses standing near a telephone exchang < late on" Friday evening, a thief carried out an audacious robbery, securing the day’s takings of the bus. A liv.lv pursuit fo.lowed, but the culprit escaped. Leaving his bus which was empt/. the driver of the robbed bus went tc the bus in front of him on the stanc to check his watch at about 10.4' o’clock. The two drivers were speaking together when they saw a man dart forward, and dash into the unattended bus. He snatched the caslibox from its fastenings, and jumped out of the bus, running towards the wharves. ' The bus drivers and others who had seen the theft, started out in pursuit of the robber, who then altered his course. The quarry had a good start, and was able to maintain his advantage. The race' continued through the railway yards, but. aided bv darkness, the thief escaped with his booty. The amount stolen was about £o.
