MAN ROBBED
BLINDED WITH CREOSOTE. » INCIDENT IN HOTEL. Two thieves committed a daring crime in Askey’s Hotel, at Bondi Junction, Sydney, recently, , when the> threw creosote and methylated spirits in a bus conductor's face and robbed him of £6. Til© hotel was crowded when Jack Pollard, aged 29 years, ‘entered a-ter being paid his wages. He was followed by two young men to a small room near the main bar. Suddenly a man drew a small vessel from his pocket and threw the contents in Mr Pollard’s face. The conductor staggered back with his hands across his eyes. Tile pain prevented his making any efforts to resist the two thieves, who hurriedly but thoroughly searched bis pockets. Then they jostled their way through the crowd at the bar and escaped into the street. Almost immediately afterwards Mr Pollard ran in with his eyes streaming with tears. The fluid had blinded him. Several men supported the conductor and tried to nlleiiat© his suffering. He was rushed to a hospital. Later lie was able to go home.
