GORED BY BULL
FARMER’S TERRIBLE INJURIES. HASTINGS, September 5. 0. Avison, farmer, op the Tukituki ■Settlement Haumona, near Hastings, was terribly injured by a Jersey bull which turned upon him and gored him, on his farm on Tuesday. iHis thighs were slashed about in a horrible way and other parts of the body were extensively mutilated. It is believed that no serious internal injuries were inflicted. He had hardly a shred of clothing left on the body when hjs. wife, who very bravely attacked the bull, with a hay fork, came to the rescue. It is stated that the bull is ordinarily most docile and had never previously given any .suspicion it was iIl-\ tampered. Avison had been accustomed to leading it about and on Tuesday was probably leading it ' through a paddock in the usual way. H'is cries attracted the attention of his wife, and after some time, she drove
the bull off, and with the assistance of neighbours took her husband into ■safety. He was not fit to be removed till yesterday afternoon, when lie was taken to Hastings Memorial Hospital, and immediately operated upon. It ■is reported that his injuries are serious, but not critical. He is suffering considerably from shock.
