THE NEW ZEALAND TOUR. AGAINST GENTLEMEN. (Special to Press Association). (Received this day at 9.25 a.m) LONDON, September 3. New Zealand cricketers commenced a match with Gentlemen of England in fine weather. The wicket and outfield was slow. New Zealand omit James, Dempster, and Matheson. England—Bryan, Whyatt, Morkel, Newman, Green, Foster, Crutchley, Brown, Benson. Altham, Wanger. Lowry won the toss. A magnificent, double century by Blunt was the feature of the cricket match New Zealand v. Gentlemen of England. The other batsmen were dis appointing, apparently being deceived by the pace of the wicket. Kerr and Lowry were both bowled by playing too soon in attempts to hit short deliveries. Blunt the bowling and soon settled down to play an innings, which from the viewpoint of technique was the finest of the tour. Hardly a shot was not played. With Talbot he made ninety-six for the fifth wicket, and with Croinb eighty-four. It was the highest individual score made by New Zealand representative. It was a clianceless display of 261 minutes, He hit 29 fours. The dead wicket tvns of no assistance to the bowlers, Brown was soldotn dangerous, Bryan and Fiddinri Green batted for twenty minutes before stumps. The attendance was three thousand.
