RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd. The IYA Broadcasting Choir and the IYA Orchestra will combine this evening to present the dramatic cantata “The .Legend of vN'erbudda” (by. Hubert Bath). On the supplementary programme, Miss Merle Miller, mezzo-soprano, of Christchurch, will be singing. A studio concert by the Wellington Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association’s Orchestra and Concert Party will be broadcast by 2YA. The vocalists for the evening will be Mr Denis Sheard (tenor, late of the .'Humphrey Bishop Company) and Miss K. Mclvor (soprano). The orchestra, under the cunductorship of Mr J. F. Woodward,will present a very fine programme, featuring the overture “Jolly Robbers’’ and “Cockney Suite.” The series of International Programmes will'continue’ at 3YA this evening. The lecturer will be Mr J. F. D. White, M. Se., 8.A., on “A Trip to the Andes.” * FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th. Miss IMerle Miller, mezzo-soprano, ot Christchurch, will be making her second appearance at IY.A this evening. A new artist, Mr El. B. Waters, baritone, will be heard in several ballads. The IYA Orchestra is supplying many interesting items including the selection, “The Fortune (Teller,” and '“The Children’s Suite.” Other instrumental items will be given by the Civic .Novelty Trio, an excellent combination whose • versatility and artistry are already well known to listeners. Mr Elton Black and Miss Alice Bennetto w{ll once again be heard in a pot pound of humour and melody. An “Irish Night” is scheduled for 2YA:- The. Orehestrina, under Signor A. I>. Truda, -will play : the overture. “To an Irish Comedy,” the selection “Shamrock,” two songs “Danny Boy” and “I’m Irish,” and two novelty numbers “Irish Beauty” and “Paddy;” The Etude Quartet will supply the vocal portion of . the programme, which will include many Irish melodies. Also on the programme will be Arthur and Stdl. mandolin duo. Mr J. A. Blackwood, piano-accordeon player, will entertain Tsteners with a “Medley of Irish Airs.” •The Valencia Quartet will provide the vocal portion of 3YA’s programme. Concerted numbers will include such fine melodies as “When the .Heart is Young. “Old 'Mother Hubbard” and “The Redesdale Lassie.” Solos will be sung bv .Miss Lucy. Full woo'd,.'Miss. Jean Johnson, Mr T 6. Rogers and Mr E. J. Johnson. Orchestral numbers will be provided by the Studio Octet and, a saxophone-piano duo (Lyndon Christie and Miss Clive Winston) wiTI 'also contribute to the programme. The next of Mr E. Iveagh Lord’s series of talks on “The Story ot the Golden 'Coast'’ will be broadcast at 9 o'clock.
On 4YA. miscellaneous programme, Mr ,T, J. Devereux wall delight listeners with some popular old ballads. Miss Lucy G. James, one of the leading contraltos of Dunedin, will also perform. The tenor will be *Mi R. A. Mitchell. The instrumental portion of the programme will be in the hands of Pettitt’s popular trio playing well known light airs. There will be a ’cello solo by Mr T. Law and xylophone solos by Mr W. J. Sinton.
