COAL MINE TROUBLE
COMPANY'S VIEWPOINT. (By Telegraph—Per press Association) AUCKLAND, September 3. I. think Wilson’s Collieries Ltd., as a company, will never operate thq coal mine again, but if the men desire to work it on the co-operative party system or on tribute, the Company wi 1 be wiling to take coal from them, ami will place its plant at their disposal on favourable 'terms, said the general manager, Mr S. ..Reid, in a statement- to-day, reviewing the history of ithe mine. He said the cost of mining coal continued to steadily increase, due to the harder conditions in themine, longer haulage and water trou' les caused by the flooding of an joining mine, as well as lack cf interest and co-operation on the , miners part. The cost reached its peajc early this year. The closing of the. mine meant that 190 employees are affected, including thirteen officials. .
