NEW ZEALANDER’S EFFORT. BRISBANE, September 1. , The singles bowling championship of. Australia was concluded to-day at the carnival at Brisbane. The game 3 resulted : .SEMI-FINALS. H. A. Robertson (Onehunga, N.Z.) beat W. A. Maughan (Bunuaberg, Q.) by 31 to 17. * . F. Dobbie (City of Camberwell, Melbourne) beat J. E. Lowe (Maswellbrook, N.S.W.) by 31 to 28. ■ V :■ , final.' ’’ Dobbie beat Robertson by 31 to 30. Maughan beat Lowe for third place by 31 to 23. Robertson was accorded ■an ovation ’( for his splendid performance. ' The Robertson-Maughan match was one of the finest games of draw and shot bowls seen in Brisbane for years. Notwithstanding that Maughan was beaten soundly, Robertson was not afraid to play a cannon bowl . and drive when the position demanded such a course. He ran to 11. before Maughan opened his account. The final was a most evenly contested game, the result being in doubt until the very end. Robertson led 21-20, and .both were level 'several, times before the finish. Dobbie; who is a past Australian champion, prevailed by the narrowest margin.
