RADIO PROGRAMME

A new instrumental ensemble is ap- 1 pearing at IYA this even'mg—Bert rvingslarfd’s Two-in-One band—which consists of nine experienced players, each of whom plays at least two instruments, or J. At. Clark, elocutionist, will give two numbers, one of them being the old favourite ‘‘How Rubenstein Played the Piano.” In this number he will be assisted by Mr Cyril Towsey. The Misses Edna and Phyllis Type will appear in a number of piano and vocal selections. Mr -Albert Gibbons Taylor, bass-baritone; and late of the Westminister Glee .Singers, will sing, among other numbers,! 'Down Among the Dead Men” and ‘‘The Mountains 0’ Mourne.” | Dr Guy H. Scholc field, O. B': E., will; ne the lecturer from 2YA during the International Programme. concert arranged by Mrs J. W. Palk, will be broadcast by 3YA. Mrs Palk is one of the Christchurch teachers j who have trained their pupils specially for microphone singing. The programme for this evening is an excellent one. Ihe vocalists will include Miss Annie Lucas (mezzo-soprano), Mrs Palk (con-, tralto), Mr A. S. Bell (baritone) and Mr I T. B. Chambers (bass-baritone). Mrs Palk will be heard in “Alla Stella Con-; lidente,” sung to 'cello obligato by Mr Harold Beck. One of Mr Bell’s solos, ••Uird Songs at Eventide” will have a background of bird voices. On the instrumenal side of the musical programme will be MisS Maisie CKtey, pianiste, I playing light classical numbers, and the Studio Octet, under Mr Harold Beck. | 4YA will broadcast a programme of I vocal and instrumental compositions by Mr Chas. A. Martin, Mus. Bach. Mr Martin will himself play several pianoforte solos and will aLso give, under the auspices of the Society of Musicians, a lecture-recital on “Grieg.” THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd. The IYA Broadcasting Choir and the IYA Orchestra will combine this evening to present the dramatic cantata “The ■Legend of Nerbudda” (by Hubert Bath). On the supplementary programme, Miss Merle Miller, mezzo-soprano, of Christchurch, will be singing. A studio concert by the Wellington Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association's Orchestra and Concert Party will be broadcast by 2YA. The vocalists for the evening will be Mr Denis Shearcf (tenor, late of the .Humphrey Bishop Company) and Miss K. Mclvor (soprano). The orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr J. F. Woodward, will present a very hue programme, featuring the overture "Jolly Robbers ’ and “Cockney Suite.” The series of International Programmes will continue at 3YA this evening. Ihe lecturer will be Mr J. F. D. White, M. Sc., 8.A., speaking on “A Trip to the Andes.”
