RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER Ist. The speaker on the IYA International Programme this evening, will be Mr Norman Heath, Consul for Latvia, his subject being “Latvia.” ' 2YA’s programme from the studio will be of the popular type. Specially featured will be Miss Merle Miller, mezzo-soprano, of- Christchurch. The remaining portion of the vocal items will be given by the Lyric Quartet, who will be heard in quartettes, duets and solos. Messrs Berthold and Bent, guitar duo, will delight listeners with popular numbers. The Salon Orchestra, under „Mr M. T. Dixon, will play selection of “Guy d’ Hardelot’s Songs/’ “Pale Moon,” and "Pale Moon” arranged as a dance novelty by Black, the selection “A Girl from Brazil” and the latest dance novelties. Plantation songs will be leatured on 4YA’s programme by The Majors Quartet. ' Solos will be sung by members of the party—Miss Freda Dimes, Miss G. Burt and Mr E. W. Robbins, while humorous numbers will be contributed 'Mr W. B. Lambert, who is an acquisition to the ranks of 4YA humorists. The Kaikorai Band will give another of its popular concerts. Of the items to be given by the Band, the selection, “A Sailor’s Life,” depicts, in musical form, a sailor’s life at sea, and contains such beautiful melodies as the well known hymn, “Fierce Raged the 'tempest, Silent day at 3YA. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd. A new instrumental ensemble is appearing at IYA this evemng—Bert Kingslaifd’s Two-iu-One band—which consists of nine experienced players, each of whom plays at least two instruments, .ur J. M. Clark, elocutionist, will give two numbers, one of them Being 'the old favourite “'How Rubenstein Played the Piano.” In this number he will be assisted by Mr Cyril Towsey. Ihe Misses ( 'Edna and Phyllis Type will appear in! a number of piano and vocal selections. Air Albert Gibbons Taylor, bass-Baritone, and late of the Westminister Glee bingers, will sing, among other numbers, • “Down Among the Dead Men” and "The Mountains 0’ Mourue.” Dr Guy H. SclioLfield, O. B. E-, will be the lecturer from 2YA during the | International Programme. concert, arranged by Mrs J. W. Palk, will be broadcast by 3YA. Mrs pais is one of the Christchurch teachers who have trained their pupils specially fur microphone singing. 'J he programme for this evening is an excellent one. '1 he vocalists will include Miss Annie Lucas (mezzo-soprano), Mrs Palk (contralto), Mr A. -S. Bell (baritone) and Mr T. B. Chambers (bass-baritone). Mrs Palk will be heard in “Alla Stella Conifidente,” sung to 'cello obligato by Air Harold Beck. One of Mr Bell’s soios, “Bird Songs at Eventide” will hkve a background of bird voices. On the inI strumenal side of the musical programme w ill bo Miss Maisie Ottey, pianiste, playing light classical numbers, and the Studio Octet, under Mr Harold Beck. 4YA will broadcast a programme of vocal and instrumental compositions by Mr Chas. A. Martin, Mus. Bach. Mr Martin will himself play several pianoforte solos and will also give, undei the auspices of the Society of Musicians, ,if lecture-recital on “Grieg.”
