ABUSES IN SOVIET CQIfHTS. MOSCOW, August 20. Declaring that the number of unjust verdicts and brutal sentences were eh ormous, Appellate Judge Aaron Solte, “Izvestia,” sensatipnallyi attacks the carelessness and irresponsibility of Russian judges. He says that they should be held criminally responsible foi wrongful verdicts. i.. Judge Soltz cited the. case of a drunken policeman who contracted to lease his wife tp a friend. The constable was sentenced to five year’s- imprisonment. Judge Soltz, on learning of the circumstances three years lat.r released the man. Another cruel sentence, he says, ’ was that of three years’ imprisonment imposed upon three students for having lied about their parentage in a school questionnaire. * ' ‘ ■
