, Dempster and Alills started brightly the latter bitting five fours before being bowled by Tate with a ball that whipped like lightning off the pitch. Dempster and Talbot provided brilliant ’cricket for the fhird wicket, putting up 134 runs in 95 minutes. Talbot made 58, and gave one of his brightest displays of the tour. He drove and hooked magnificently, incting seven fours.
Dempster maintained a mastery of the bowling, but after passing the century, he took risks, and he was stumped when yards out of his crease, He gave a spurkling, chanceless display, using practically every scoring shot, and his placing was brilliant. He made 167. He batted for 215 minutes and hit one six anu twenty-three fours. Another sound innings followed, Kerr playing all the bowling confidently. He made 59 and was then bowled in attempting a big hit. He batted for one luinorcd minutes ana hit five fours. The Sussex attack was never difficult, and the bajtsineu wore not troubled by Tate. Hobbs, the well known cricketer, will not retire at the end of this season, as he had previously intended. He has decided i to play for Surrey during the 1932 season. A London sporting writer states that this news wifi be welcomed by all true lovers of the national game. Vie says: “It is not the number of runs that Hobbs scores but the way he makes the runs which has made him famous."
