RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) V SATURDAY, AUGUST 29th. The IYA Studio concert this evening will be given by the Orchestra,, under the direction of Mr Hairold Baxter, with Mr Lambert Harvey and Miss Lilian Woods singing solos and duets. During the evening, “Le Fore Brace” will once 1 again entertain listeners with a sea : story, entitled “Posted Missing.” The 'Demonstration Concert of the: ’Wellington Competitions Society’s 1931 J Festival will be broadcast by 2YA. At this concert all the winners of - the various classes will be performing. * A popular concert given in 4YA’s Studio will be broadcast by 3YA and 4YA. An orchestral octet will play excerpts from Kern’s "Sunny,” ‘‘Rio Rita,” ‘‘American -election,” and two numbers which will be presented for the first time in New Zealand—“ Russian Medley” (by Geiger) and “Knights of the King” (Ketelbey’s most recent composition). The "Russian Medley” is a dance arrangement of traditional Russian folk songs. The “Regal Four” will present four groups of songs and two folk songs. Mr Buster Brown will dispense the humour on ,this occasion. “The Radiettes” will present some of the latest popular melodies in song, dance and patter. Mr Kenderdine will play a piccolo solo, to orchestral accompaniment, “Chant of the Nightingale.” MONDAY, AUGUST, 31st. The wrestling match—Lunch v. Buresch—will be broadcast by IYA this evening. At 2YA, Mr George Elhvood will gjive a ’cello recital—“ Lighter Moods of Classical Composers.” His programme will include gems by Dvoftik, Elgar, Van Goens, Popper and Fischer. Miss Hilda Chudley (contralto), Miss Mary McKeowen (mezzo-sonprano) and Mr D. L. Irwin (lyric tenor) will sing. Mr Sydney “Glimpses of Modern Composers.” The Orchestrina, under Signor A. P. Tp-da. will play Boccherini’s “Celebrated Minuet,” Schumann’s “Reverie” and one of Chopin’s waltzes. A “Rangiora Night” will be the, programme from 3YA. A concert party of the leading vocal talent of the town, an Hawaiian Orchestra, -and a first class brass band will give a conceit in the Studio. During the evening Mr i\y. A. Rowse, Mayor of Rangiora, will speak on “Town Life in the Countiy. The singers will include Miss Thelma rAyfles (soprano), Misß K. Cassidy (soprano), Mr Geo. March (baritone), Mr E. D. R. Smith (baritone) and Mr G. D. Blake (bass). Mr J. Hancox will play two violin solos arid Mr 0. J. Smith will be the humorist lor the evening. j , The speaker for (the International Programme at 4YA--will.be Mr Elwood, Secretary of the Otago Importers and Shippers Association. He will speak on “The Development of 'lnternational Trading at Sea.”.
