WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CENTRAL RIDING. Ladies and Gentlemen,— T regret Hint through an inadvortence f became disqualified as your Member. But as the-cause was purely technical, 1 have been advised to offer my services again, and beg to do so. The term of office has to run only to May next?' and I am desirous with consent of my colleagues, to complete my term of the Chairmanship, and accordingly beg to ask your interest and support at the forthcoming poll. The cause of my resignation was due to a letter from the Controller and Auditor General in which he pointed out that being a shareholder in the Diggers’ Sawmilling Coy. Ltd., which had traded with the Council, I became disqualified, and that in consequence it would be unlawful to further act “until such time .as re-elected to the Council.” The Auditor-General further wrote: “The Audit Inspector has advised me I of your statement that it is questionable if the provisions of the section apply in your case in view of the fact that the Company has not paid, and is not likely to pay, any dividend tor the period under review; but I have to advise you that it has been ruled by the Crown Law Office that the question of whether or not any profit is dirived from the transactions does not 'affect the Member’s interest in the contract.” If honoured again with your confidence. I will be glad to do all T can for the advancement of the d’strwfc. and to that end invite your vote and interest on polling day. Yours obediently. M. KEENAN. Woodstock, August 26, 1931.
