EXPRESSION OF THOUGHT The importance cf speech trailing is stressed in the syllabus, but it will not be given its due prominence in our schools until some definite standards are required each year, as in arithmetic and other subjects. If it were a requirement for a certificate of proficiency that a. child, instead of writing a composition, had to speak correctly at some length and with some indication of logic upon a topic with which he was familiar, ther e would he a considerable development of a great national asset—the power of clear expression of thought.
