RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.ft. Ltd.) FRIDAY, AUGUST 28th. Two new artists will appear on. lYA’s studio programme this evening. Mrs Hawea Rees, soprano, and Mr J. V. Burton, baritone. Two humorous sketches will be acted by Miss Linuie Nicholas and Mr Zante Wood, and the IYA Orchestra will be heard in several selections, amongst them being "Hungarian Lustspiel,” ‘‘Rotten Row,”" and “The-Water Melon Patch.” One of the new members of the Orchestra, Mr W. Bright, will play a cornet solo, “L’Adiea” by Schubert. 2YA will relay from the Wellington Town Hall the ninth concert of the Wellington Competitions Societyjs 1931 Festival. Soprano, tenor and light baritone solos, humour in song and story, piano duets and orchestral numbers will comprise 3YA’s programme. The singers will be Mrs L. B. Salkeld, Mr James iShaw and Mr Leslie A. Stewart, all of whose songs will be sung to orchestral accompaniment. Mr George Titchener will be the humorist. This evenipg’s entertainment at 4YA will mark the first appearance of a brilliant orchestral combination under the direction oi Signora Martinelli-Reg-giardo, well known in Dunedin as a fine pianiste and first class conductress. The individual members of the orchestra are all well ‘known artists, including Mr J. Stewart, a brilliant flautist. The programme to be presented will include popular musical comedy selections and overtures. Miss Mae Matheson (soprano) and Mr 0. S. Hawes (baritone) will sing. Miss 'Eva .Holland will include “Wodehouse Up-to-date” in her humorous recitations.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 29th. The 1Y T A Studio concert this; evening I will be given by the Orchestra, under the direction of Mr Harold Baxter, with j Mr Lambert Harvey and Aliss Lilian Woods singing solos and duets. During tlie evening, “Le Fore Brace” will once again entertain listeners with a sea story, entitled “Posted Missing. The Demonstration Concert of the Wellington Competitions Society’s 1931 Festival will be broadcast by 2YA. At this concert all the winners of the various classes will be performing. A popular concert given in 4YA’s Studio will be broadcast by 3YA and 4YA. Ah orchestral octet will play excerpts from Kern's." Sunny,” “Rio Rita,” “American election,” and two numbers which will be presented foi the first time in- New Zealand—-“Rus-. sian Medley” (by Geiger) and ‘ Knights ,of the King” (Ketelbey’s most recent composition). The “Russian Medley is a dance arrangement of traditional Russian folk songs. The “Regal Four” will present four groups of songs and two folk songs. Mr Buster Brown will dispense the humour on ,this occasion. “The Radiettes” will present some of the latest popular melodies in song, dance and patter. Mr Kenderdine will play a piccolo solo, to orchestral accompaniment, “Chant of the Nightingale.”
