A FURTHER INCREASE.

WELLINGTON, August 27. An apparent increase' of 126 in the 1/ unemployment registrations in shown for the week ended August 24th., when the total was 49,258. The Minister of Labour said to-day that the number of men who were placed under the No. 5 Scheme was 35,869. There were 4,929 engaged under Scheme 4A, while there • were 1,093 under Scheme 48, and 112 were placed in other employment. The men for whom no work was provided number 7,25-5, but many of these, said the Minister, would be standing down, under the requirement of Scheme No. 5, that they should do so for one week in each four; while others would be of a class not employable owing to an inability to ♦undertake manual work. Particulars of the registrations in
the centres are as follows: Auckland: With dependants 3221; "■ without dependants 4099. Wellington : With dependants 2467; without dependants 2295. Christchurch: With dependants 3254; without dependants 1787. > , Dunedin: With dependants 1633, without; dependants 1998.
