WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CENTRAL RTDING. Ladies and Gentlemen, — T regret that through an inadver- ; to nee T became disqualified as vour Member. Hut as the cause was purely technical. I have been advised to offei mv services again, and lies to do so. i The term of office lias to run only to May next, and T am desirous with consent of my colleagues, to complete mv term of the Chairmanship, and accordingly beg to ask your interest and support at the forthcoming poll. The cause of my resignation was due to a letter from the Controller and Auditor General in 'which he pointed out that 'being a shareholder in ' the Diggers’ Sawmilling Coy, Ltd., which had traded with the Council, T became disqualified, and that in consequence it would he unlawful to further act “until such time as re-elected to the Council.” The Auditor-General further wrote; “The Audit Inspector has advised me of your statement that it is questionable if the provisions of the section' apply in your case in view of the fact that the Company has not paid, and is not. likely to pay, any dividend for the period under review; but I have to advise you that it has been ruled by the Crown Law Office that, the ques r tion of whether or not any profit is dirived from the transactions does not affect the Member’s interest in the contract.” , Tf honoured again with your confidence. T will be glad to do all T can for the advancement o f f he and to that end invite your vote and interest on polling day. Yours obediently.' M. KEENAN. Woodstock, August 20, 1931.
