TIMBER OBSTRUCTIONS. ROTORUA, August 26. The • installation of drainage at Rotorua, has been accompanied by many difficulties which are not usually met with in other localities. For the purpose ,of finding a low level position from which sewage could be pumped a -site was selected in King Street. As previously-Teported, it was found that the inflow of .underground water made it impossible to excavate the tank required. A new site was selected not far from the original one, but the water problem still presents a formidable stacle to the final construction of the tank.
As. the excavation proceeded the contractors found big timber, which had apparently been covered over in years gbrie by. With determination not to be beaten, they employed divers, and for some days one diver has been working at the bottom of the tank removing the timber obstructions. One of his tasks has been to saw through ’under'-23ft-'of water, a 4ft 3in totara log.
